HKDI Website Design & Development

An iconic design institution web design with pervasive interactions and animations.

Brief:

The Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is a leading design institution under the VTC Group. It provides astray high-quality education to cultivate knowledge and professionalism and produces emerging talents who underpin the creative industries in Hong Kong.

With large volume of information, we considered much on the information architecture (IA) of the existing website. This is actually a total challenge in balancing the beauty of trendy and informative website. To build a harmony atmosphere for an energetic design and influential content materials, our team created an iconic design with pervasive interactions and animations application to outstand the charismatic status of HKDI. Besides, we proposed to apply a mobile driven navigation approach to ease the navigation flow and enrich the taste of design and creative homepage layout; while we layered different content information under each main topic to keep a neat layout display. Our design maximizes the visual impact of one’s gaze and perception of an innovative and dynamic institution. Aside from the animations and motion elements utilization, our team played around with different HKDI academic programme colour scheme to level up the cohesiveness and signify the importance of its articulation differentiation. The combination of different colour scheme helps generating a sense of cheer when refreshing the website from time to time.

This website revamp project has its purpose in re-branding and status positioning. A comprehensive design should be able to apply in various devices to enhance the user-experience (UX) and accessibility. The HKDI website was therefore created with a Responsive Web Design (RWD) to cater desktop, tablet and mobile users, to as well optimize the mobile device performance and interactive experience across devices and adhered to the World Wide Web Consortium, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C WCAG) 2.0 Level AA standard. For better content maintenance, we implemented a semi-tailor made, user-friendly and concise Content Management System (CMS) solution to best fit HKDI.
